Willard J. Gundrum Tahoka, TX. - Willard J. Gundrum, 96, a longtime resident of Wynantskill, passed away on Friday February 21, 2014 at his home, the Lynnwood Assisted Living Facility in Tahoka, Texas with his daughter by his side. Born and raised in Taborton, New York, Willard was the son of the late Rudolph and Carrie Karl Gundrum. From 1944 until moving to Texas in 2009, Willard resided in Wynantskill with his wife Mildred. Willard served in the U.S. Army. He was a lifelong member of the Zion’s United Church of Christ, Taborton, where he was a Communion Steward, Church Board Member, and always available to help on any of the many maintenance projects around the church. He was a licensed electrician and retired from Marshall Ray Corporation after 37 years. Willard was a volunteer at Samaritan Hospital and a member of the Troy Lodge of Elks and the Speiglelders Senior Group. He and Mildred were early members of the Tamarac Twirlers Square Dance Club. Willard was predeceased by his beloved wife Mildred M. Angle Gundrum on June 25, 2012, after 71 years of marriage. He was the father of the late Robert A. Gundrum and brother of the late John, Walter, Charles, Fred, Lawrence, Lester and Earl Gundrum, Mildred Smyth, Luella Shoemaker and Iona Mosher. Willard is survived by his children Paul W. (Carolyn) Gundrum of Mechanicville, and JoAnn (Michael) Travis of Post, TX, his daughter in law Mary Ida (Paul) Scher of Averill Park, his grandchildren Paulette (Bryant) Gripp, Mark R. (Dayna) Gundrum, Erica M. Gundrum, Carrie E. (Jan) Sabisch, Bryan C. (Catherine Ann) Gundrum and Matthew P. Scher and his great grandsons Dustin Moffre, Joseph and Daniel Gundrum and Christoph Sabisch. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral Service Saturday, March 1, 2014, at 10 a.m. at the Zion’s United Church of Christ, 741 Taborton Road, Sand Lake, NY. Relatives and friends are invited and may also call at the Perry-Komdat Funeral Chapel 2691 NY 43 at Glass Lake Averill Park, NY.
